The International Law Association (ILA) has congratulated Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, OFR, CON, founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD), following the recent declaration of October 18 as Afe Babalola Day.
On August 23, 2024, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr) Adeyemo Adejugbe Aladesanmi III, the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, proclaimed that Aare Afe Babalola, known as “The Pride of Ado Ekiti,” would be honored annually with celebrations on October 18. This declaration recognizes Babalola’s contributions to education, law, and philanthropy in Nigeria.
Aare Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Founding Patron of the International Law Association in Nigeria, is celebrated for his impact across various fields. His achievements include his role in the legal profession, his dedication to agricultural development, and his philanthropic efforts. Babalola is also the founder of ABUAD, a university that has consistently ranked as the number one institution in Nigeria for impact, according to the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, and is recognized globally for its contributions to education and social progress.
Professor Damilola S. Olawuyi, SAN, President of the International Law Association, Nigeria, and a United Nations Independent Expert, expressed admiration for Babalola’s legacy. In a letter of congratulations, Olawuyi praised Babalola’s commitment to justice, education, and philanthropy, describing him as an inspiration to international lawyers and a deserving recipient of this honor.
