Malawi’s First Lady, Madam Monica Chakwera, urged women across the country to embrace high self-esteem and respect for one another during the Women’s World Day of Prayer at Mzuzu Stadium on Friday. Speaking to the gathering, Chakwera called on women to recognize their worth, noting that no woman is small in the eyes of God.
She encouraged women to accept themselves as they are and to believe that their contributions matter. “Let us pray for the country’s education sector, so no girl is forced to drop out of school,” Chakwera said. “Let us pray for peace, so our homes, communities, and nation can thrive. Let us also pray for opportunities so that every woman, no matter where she comes from, has a chance to rise.”
Chakwera emphasized the importance of encouraging girls to stay in school to increase literacy levels in the country. She also reminded women of their purpose, strength, and wisdom, describing them as leaders, nurturers, and life-givers.
The First Lady also called for women to nurture good behavior in their children to help them grow into responsible citizens. As mothers of the nation, she urged them to unite in prayer for the betterment of Malawi.
