LAGOS, Aug 31 – Nigeria is set to launch a vaccination campaign against mpox starting from October 8. The country will begin distributing the first batch of 10,000 doses of the Jynneos vaccine, which it received from the U.S. Agency for International Development earlier this week.
According to Remi Adeleke, a spokesperson for the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, the vaccines will be divided equally among five states with confirmed mpox cases. Each state will receive 1,996 doses, which will be administered to 4,750 individuals in two doses, 28 days apart.
The target population for the vaccination includes healthcare workers, people with weakened immune systems, and those who have had close contact with individuals infected with mpox. This targeted approach aims to prioritize individuals at a higher risk of contracting the virus.
