ACCRA — May 7, 2025 — Danish healthcare giant Novo Nordisk is expanding efforts to combat diabetes in Ghana, focusing on vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly through its iCARE initiative.
The campaign, designed to improve diabetes care and education, has been rolled out in partnership with local health authorities. It offers direct support to patients and equips healthcare professionals with training aimed at delivering more sustainable and effective treatment.
These developments were central to recent meetings involving Denmark’s Ambassador to Ghana, Tom Nørring, officials from Novo Nordisk, Ghana’s Minister of Health Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and senior representatives of the National Health Insurance Authority, led by Deputy CEO Dr. Senanu Djokoto.
The discussions revolved around ways to strengthen Ghana’s healthcare system and build long-term solutions to manage diabetes, especially Type 1 diabetes, which affects children from birth.
Novo Nordisk, a global leader in diabetes care, has been active in Ghana through public-private partnerships, using its Danish roots to support impactful health interventions across Africa.
