Bangkok, Thailand – Thailand has confirmed its first case of the clade 1b strain of mpox, a disease control official announced on Thursday. The infected individual is a 66-year-old European man who recently arrived from an African country where the virus is prevalent.
Thongchai Keeratihattayakorn, director-general of the Department of Disease Control, stated that the man is likely infected from an endemic country and that no other local infections have been identified through contact tracing.
The confirmation of the clade 1b strain raises concerns due to its highly contagious nature.
