A Zambian agricultural delegation has concluded a successful benchmarking visit in South Africa, gaining valuable insights into the Comprehensive Agriculture Transformation Support Program (CATSP). Dr. Chizumba Shepande, Director at Zambia’s Ministry of Agriculture, called the visit a success, noting that it provided important information on economic trends and agriculture’s role in Zambia’s economy.
Dr. Shepande highlighted Zambia’s agricultural potential, emphasizing that with the right policies and support, the sector can achieve significant growth. He explained that the CATSP framework provides a clear direction for agricultural transformation, focusing on production improvement and the sector’s scope.
“The Ministry of Agriculture is committed to learning from best practices and adapting them to Zambia’s needs,” Dr. Shepande said.
Zambia’s Acting High Commissioner to South Africa, Ms. Inonge Mwenya, described the benchmarking exercise as a vital opportunity for Zambia to learn from South Africa’s agricultural successes. She noted that such exchanges help both countries enhance agricultural policies, boost productivity, and improve food security.
South African delegates expressed their interest in collaborating with the Zambian team, hoping to further strengthen agricultural ties between the two nations.
