H.E. Dr. Omar Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission, spoke at the G20 Ministerial Conference in Johannesburg, South Africa, on February 21, 2025. In his speech, Dr. Touray called for the strengthening of Regional Economic Communities (RECs) to promote solidarity, equality, and sustainability.
Dr. Touray emphasized that stronger RECs would improve international cooperation and multilateralism. He also discussed the importance of debt sustainability as a driver for inclusive development and economic growth, which he argued would further strengthen regional cooperation.
The G20, made up of 19 countries, the European Union, and the African Union, serves as a key platform for international dialogue on global issues. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa chaired the recent G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting.
