King Mswati III announced the creation of a new holiday to commemorate the Buganu ceremony, a decision made during the first session of the ceremony at the Buhleni Royal Residence yesterday. The King explained that the Lutsango regiment had never had its own holiday, prompting this new move.
The holiday will take effect when the regiments gather for their second session at Hlane and will be observed every Monday following the Hlane Buganu ceremony. It will also be merged with the celebrations of King Sobuza II. Although the holiday will share similarities with the Umhlanga and Incwala holidays, it will not be a statutory holiday. Instead, it will be formally gazetted by the Minister of Home Affairs once the Hlane Buganu ceremony date is confirmed.
The King also clarified that July 22 will remain a regular working day.
