Mogadishu, February 23, 2025 – Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ali Mohamed Omar, met with Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) Director, Brig. Gen. (Rtd) Paul Kahuria Njema, on Sunday to discuss strengthening security ties.
The meeting at the Ministry’s headquarters in Mogadishu focused on expanding Somalia’s role in EASF operations, particularly in peace support missions and training programs. Discussions also addressed Somalia’s participation in regional security frameworks.

Somalia, a member of the EASF, contributes to regional stability alongside other nations. The EASF, formerly the Eastern Africa Standby Brigade (EASBRIG), is one of five regional forces under the African Standby Force (ASF). It includes military, police, and civilian units and serves as an operational arm of the African Union’s Peace and Security Council, established under the 2002 Protocol.
