Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mme. Sara Beysolow Nyanti, met with Burkina Faso’s Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, on January 31, 2025, to discuss regional peace and security. The meeting, held on behalf of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, also served to seek Burkina Faso’s support for Liberia’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the 2026-2027 term.

Liberia’s candidacy marks a significant step for the country, offering a chance to strengthen its voice in global peacekeeping and security efforts. Minister Nyanti expressed Liberia’s desire to contribute more actively to resolving international issues.

The two leaders also discussed the possibility of convening a meeting of the Alliance of Sahel-Saharan States (AES) in Monrovia to address regional security matters. Captain Traoré responded positively to the proposal.

Additionally, Liberia’s Presidential Special Envoys on Investment and Tourism organized a roundtable with Burkinabe investors, who expressed interest in exploring potential business opportunities in Liberia.
