The American Black Film Festival (ABFF) has named Nia Long and Larenz Tate as ambassadors for its 29th edition, set to take place from June 11-15 in Miami Beach. Long and Tate, best known for their roles in the 1997 romantic drama Love Jones, will help promote the festival’s mission to showcase Black content and support creators of color in the entertainment industry.
In addition to their ambassadorial roles, Long and Tate will take part in ABFF Remembers: Love Jones, a special event that will celebrate the film’s legacy. The two actors will reunite for an intimate conversation, reflecting on their time working on the film and the enduring bond they’ve shared since. The tribute will also feature highlights from the film’s celebrated soundtrack.
The two actors have been longstanding supporters of ABFF, which was founded in 1997 by Jeff Friday. Their involvement continues a tradition of advocating for Black storytelling in both film and television.
Long, an award-winning actor, will next star in the biopic Michael, portraying a role in the highly anticipated film about Michael Jackson. She is also set to release her memoir later this year. Tate, who has starred in notable films like Menace II Society, Dead Presidents, and Crash, is currently known for his role in the Power series. He is also an entrepreneur and co-founder of TateMen Entertainment, a company focused on producing content that champions Black voices.
The festival will also feature an online segment running from June 16-23 on ABFF PLAY, making the event accessible to a broader audience.
