Mogadishu – Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, led a high-level meeting on the transition of the United Nations Transition Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNTMIS), bringing together around sixty officials and experts from the Federal Government, UNTMIS, and various UN agencies.
Discussions focused on a phased transfer of responsibilities from UNTMIS to Somali institutions and relevant UN agencies. Jointly organized by Somalia’s Foreign Ministry and UNTMIS, the meeting set the framework for a structured handover.
Fiqi acknowledged the UN mission’s role in Somalia’s stabilization efforts and noted the country’s progress in governance and development. He called for a practical and well-coordinated transition, aligning UN operations with Somalia’s National Transformation Plan (NTP).
