Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire – The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and fostering regional integration by actively participating in the second edition of the ECOWAS Small Business Coalition (ESBC) Trade Fair.
Held in Abidjan from November 21st to 23rd, 2024, the event provided a platform for SMEs to connect, showcase their products, and explore opportunities for cross-border trade.
ECOWAS Commissioner for Economic Affairs and Agriculture, Massandjé Touré-Litse, emphasized the importance of regional integration in driving economic growth and job creation. She highlighted the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as a significant opportunity for West African countries to expand their markets and boost trade.
To support SMEs, ECOWAS has implemented several initiatives, including the ECOWAS SME Charter, which outlines key priorities for fostering entrepreneurship and creating a conducive business environment. The organization is also working with partners to develop a comprehensive framework for regional economic zones, which will stimulate economic growth and job creation.
