Maseru, Lesotho – The Apostolic Nuncio of The Holy See to Lesotho, His Excellency Archbishop Henryk Mieczysław Jagodziński, has presented his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Letsie III.
The ceremony took place at the Royal Palace in Maseru on October 10, 2024.
The fraternal relations between Lesotho and The Holy See date back to 1862 when the first Roman Catholic Missionaries arrived in the country. The Catholic Church has made significant contributions to Lesotho’s development, including building schools, hospitals, and founding the National University of Lesotho.
In October 2013, His Majesty King Letsie III visited The Vatican to be received by Pope Francis on the occasion of his 50th birthday. During the visit, His Majesty also met with the Cardinal Secretary of State of The Holy See.
The Holy See is the Universal Government of the Catholic Church and operates from Vatican City State. The Pope is the ruler of both Vatican City State and The Holy See.
