His Majesty King Letsie III of Lesotho spoke at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York on September 26, 2024. In his address to global leaders, he reaffirmed Lesotho’s foundational principle of peace, known as “Khotso,” and reiterated the nation’s commitment to tolerance, inclusion, and unity. The King called for collective action to address global challenges and promote sustainable development, aligning with the General Debate’s theme: “Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations.”

Following the King’s remarks, Dr. Retselisitsoe Matlanyane, the Honourable Minister of Finance and Development Planning, delivered a statement at the Annual Ministerial Meeting of Ministers of Foreign Affairs for Least Developed Countries (LDCs). She highlighted Lesotho’s commitment to sustainable development and climate resilience, urging for urgent international cooperation to assist LDCs in overcoming critical challenges.

The Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Lejone Mpotjana, represented Lesotho at the 23rd Annual Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs). The meeting focused on the theme “Building Momentum Towards Gaborone: Partnering for a Decade of Action and Transformation in LLDCs,” and addressed strategies for implementing the new Programme of Action and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in LLDCs. Minister Mpotjana discussed the importance of strong global commitments to support socio-economic development, climate change initiatives, and the integration of LLDCs into the multilateral trading system.
