Kenya has officially nominated Raila Odinga for the Chairmanship of the African Union Commission, with President William Ruto leading the announcement at State House, Nairobi. The event, attended by key regional leaders, underscores Kenya’s commitment to positioning Odinga as a transformative leader for the continent.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi emphasized Odinga’s dedication to Pan-Africanism and unity, noting that all East African Community member states have endorsed his candidacy. Mudavadi stated that Odinga’s leadership aligns with Africa’s Agenda 2063 and represents a shared vision for a unified and prosperous continent.

The nomination event saw the attendance of regional heavyweights, including Presidents Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and Salva Kiir of South Sudan, as well as former Presidents Jakaya Kikwete and Olusegun Obasanjo. Diplomats, ambassadors, and international leaders also participated, signaling broad support for Odinga’s bid.
