Mbabane, Eswatini – The Minister of Home Affairs, HRH Princess Lindiwe, on Tuesday joined the 7th Africa Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Day at the Royal Villas. The event, held under the theme “Strengthening the Linkage to Legal Identity Systems through Digitalization,” underscored the crucial role of CRVS in effective governance and societal development.
In her address, the minister emphasized the need for aligned systems to ensure transparent, accountable, and inclusive governance. She highlighted the benefits of digitalization, including improved service delivery, fraud prevention, and cross-border management.
Eswatini has made significant strides in CRVS, with the enactment of the National Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Act in 2023. This legislation aims to modernize the civil registration process, ensuring that all citizens have access to reliable and efficient identification documents.
The minister commended the efforts of Emaswati in registering vital events, noting the success of the Ministry’s Mopping Exercise. This initiative has provided thousands of citizens with essential identification documents, including a 117-year-old woman who was registered for the first time.
