Maseru, Lesotho – The U.S. Embassy in Maseru has welcomed Thomas Hines as its new Charge d’Affaires. Hines, a seasoned diplomat with a wealth of experience, assumed the role in August 2024.
Hines brings a unique blend of diplomatic expertise and cultural acumen to his new post. Before taking up his position in Lesotho, he served as Counselor for Environment, Science, Technology, and Health at the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, Japan. His distinguished career also includes postings in Seoul, South Korea; Bangkok, Thailand; and Lagos, Nigeria.
A graduate of Pomona College with an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Hines boasts a diverse professional background. Prior to joining the diplomatic corps, he held a senior analyst position at Intel Corporation. His language proficiency in Japanese, Thai, and Korean is expected to be invaluable in his new role.
As the U.S. Embassy’s top diplomat in Lesotho, Hines is tasked with strengthening bilateral relations and promoting American interests in the country. Outside of his official duties, he has expressed keen interest in exploring Lesotho’s natural beauty and learning the local Sesotho language.
