Maseru, Lesotho – Lesotho has updated United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on preparations for the Third United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC3). The conference, rescheduled for Gaborone, Botswana, in December, aims to address the unique challenges faced by landlocked nations.
As a bureau member of the Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) group, Lesotho played a key role in briefing the UN chief. The upcoming conference, to be attended by heads of state and government, will adopt a 10-year action plan to address critical issues affecting these nations.
The draft action plan, with a focus on five priority areas, was approved by UN member states in June. The conference will also delve into pressing matters such as climate change vulnerability, debt burdens, transportation hurdles, trade, regional integration, health, and agriculture.
Beyond government officials, the conference will bring together lawmakers, businesses, civil society, and young people. Lesotho, a seven-year bureau member, will co-chair the meeting alongside Zimbabwe, representing the African region.
