Johannesburg, South Africa – Wu Peng, China’s newly appointed ambassador to South Africa, arrived in the country on Monday to assume his duties.
Warmly received by Ms. Yoliswa Mvebe, a representative from South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation, Ambassador Wu expressed his delight to be in the “beautiful Rainbow Nation” as the 7th Chinese ambassador. He extended his gratitude to those who have championed the growth of China-South Africa relations.
Despite geographical distance, Ambassador Wu highlighted the long-standing friendly exchanges and the unique “camaraderie plus brotherhood” bond between the two nations. He credited the strategic guidance of both countries’ leaders for the steady and rapid development of their comprehensive strategic partnership, which serves as a model for China-Africa and South-South cooperation.
Emphasizing the importance of the recent state visit by President Xi Jinping and South Africa’s successful general election, Ambassador Wu acknowledged the significance of this moment in China-South Africa relations. He described the current era as a “golden era” for the relationship, with the potential to yield even greater benefits for both countries.
Looking ahead, Ambassador Wu pledged to work with South Africa to strengthen ties, broaden cooperation, and achieve shared development. He highlighted the upcoming Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) summit in Beijing as a key opportunity for collaboration.
Ambassador Wu expressed his commitment to serving the Chinese community in South Africa, including overseas Chinese citizens, staff of Chinese-invested organizations, and Chinese students.
Ms. Mvebe reciprocated the warm welcome, assuring Ambassador Wu of South Africa’s support in facilitating his role and expressing their dedication to deepening the friendship and expanding cooperation between the two nations.
