Ghana’s Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) Director General, Yofi Grant, recently visited the Wahu Mobility plant, a move that underscores the government’s commitment to fostering the nation’s burgeoning electric vehicle (EV) industry.
This visit follows Grant’s participation in the Ghana JET Project’s investment outreach to Thailand, specifically aimed at promoting opportunities in Ghana’s automobile manufacturing sector. The timing is no coincidence, as Wahu Mobility is ramping up its investment in EV production and gearing up for the launch of a new concept car this June.
During the visit, Wahu Mobility co-founder Valerie Labi welcomed Grant and outlined the company’s multifaceted approach to advancing sustainable mobility. This includes creating training programs to develop a skilled workforce, utilizing EVs to empower gig economy workers, and fostering interconnected systems that will drive EV adoption and ownership.
Grant, impressed by Wahu’s vision, discussed the recent investment outreach to Thailand. He emphasized the GIPC’s commitment to connecting Wahu with potential Thai partners, leveraging the Centre’s expertise in investment matchmaking. He further assured Wahu of the GIPC’s unwavering support in navigating potential hurdles encountered while interacting with government agencies.
The visit concluded with a tour of the Wahu Mobility production facility. This tour provided Grant with a firsthand look at the company’s innovative digital technology systems used for monitoring, tracking, and supporting their unique “lease-to-own” ownership model.
