Newly appointed Nigeria head coach Finidi George has stressed the importance of collective effort in securing the country’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to Lagos Daily, Finidi expressed his delight at the appointment and vowed to give his all to lead the Super Eagles back to the global stage.
“This is a task that requires everyone’s contribution,” Finidi declared. “With the backing of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and the unwavering support of Nigerians, we can achieve great things.”
Finidi inherits a challenging situation. The Super Eagles currently sit third in Group C of the African qualifiers, trailing Rwanda and South Africa. Their next crucial fixtures come in June, with matches against South Africa and Benin scheduled.
Nigeria’s quest for World Cup qualification faces an uphill battle, but Finidi remains optimistic. He is expected to finalize details with the NFF before addressing the media in the coming days.
