Dr. Patrice Motsepe has secured a second four-year term as President of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) after being re-elected unopposed. The announcement was made during the 14th CAF Extraordinary General Assembly in Cairo on Wednesday, confirming his leadership until 2029.
With no challengers stepping forward before the nomination deadline in November 2024, Motsepe’s re-election was a formality, backed by strong support from Member Association Presidents and key stakeholders.
Since assuming office, he has been credited with restoring financial stability to CAF and expanding its global influence. The TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire 2023 set a record with 1.4 billion viewers worldwide, underscoring the tournament’s growing appeal.
Prizemoney for CAF’s premier competitions, including the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, has seen substantial increases under his leadership. Financial aid to Member Associations has also been strengthened, fostering greater investment in infrastructure and football development across the continent.
Motsepe, 63, reaffirmed his commitment to advancing African football, stating that his focus remains on making the sport more competitive on a global scale, securing financial sustainability, and investing in infrastructure.
