The 2025 ECOWAS Abuja International Marathon brought together elite athletes, dignitaries, and sports enthusiasts from across West Africa on March 1, promoting youth participation, gender equality, and regional integration. The event, held in Nigeria’s capital, featured a 21-kilometer half-marathon and a 5-kilometer fun run.

With a prize pool exceeding $71,000, the marathon provided a platform for athletes to compete while encouraging health, fitness, and solidarity. Runners from various West African nations took part, reflecting ECOWAS’s commitment to cooperation through sports.

Organizers described the marathon as a race that symbolizes endurance and resilience. The event also aimed to engage young people and promote equal participation in athletics, aligning with ECOWAS’s broader vision of inclusivity and development.
