Micromedia Group, a powerhouse in Nigeria’s media scene, has unveiled a multi-million naira animation studio, marking a significant leap for African entertainment. This investment signifies a commitment to fostering high-quality, African-inspired animation content.
Shileola Ibironke, the Group’s MD/CEO, pinpointed the crucial need for homegrown animation. “African audiences crave animation,” she stated, “but most of it comes from elsewhere. Micromedia Animation Studios aims to rewrite that narrative.”
The state-of-the-art studio will create both 2D and 3D animated series and feature films. This platform will empower African animators to showcase their skills and fuel creativity. Their flagship series, “Kibi Quazi,” has already garnered acclaim, paving the way for a promising slate of upcoming releases including “Power Chord Girls,” “SAGi,” and “TWOA.”
Micromedia’s vision goes beyond entertainment. The studio aspires to be a springboard for aspiring animators and digital media enthusiasts, nurturing the next generation of African storytellers.
Ibironke, a prominent figure in the industry, brings a wealth of experience. She is the driving force behind Micromedia Group, encompassing Nigeria’s leading content production and distribution company, retail ventures, cinemas, and even a sports lounge. Her achievements extend to executive producing groundbreaking television shows like “Taste of Love,” the first independent telenovela drama series in West Africa, and various films showcased on Amazon Prime Video.
