The Anambra State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspects in relation to the recent attack on the US Consulate Convoy in Ogbaru Local Government Area. The assault, which occurred on Tuesday, resulted in the tragic loss of seven lives. Among the deceased were three US Consulate officials and four Mobile Police escorts.

Providing an update on the investigation during a press briefing on Thursday, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Echeng Echeng, revealed that a Joint Security Task Force, comprising police tactical teams, Nigerian Army troops, and Navy personnel, conducted a raid on the suspects’ hideout at Ugwuaneocha community in Ogbaru LGA.

Upon reaching the location, the security operatives discovered that the camp had been abandoned. Commissioner Echeng disclosed that the deserted camp was subsequently razed down. However, two individuals of interest have been apprehended and are currently being interrogated by the police.

According to the Commissioner, the victims of the attack included five male officials from the US Embassy and four armed police escorts from Lagos. They were on a mission to assess the impact of erosion in the Ogbaru area and were traveling in a convoy of two vehicles when the attack took place.

The attack on the US Consulate Convoy has raised concerns regarding the security situation in Anambra State. The police, in collaboration with other security agencies, remain dedicated to ensuring the safety of residents and visitors alike. The arrests made thus far demonstrate the commitment and swift action taken by the authorities to bring those responsible to justice.

As the investigation progresses, it is expected that more information will be revealed regarding the motives and individuals involved in the attack. The Anambra State Police Command urges the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could aid in the ongoing investigation.

The tragic loss of lives in this attack underscores the importance of strengthening security measures to safeguard diplomatic missions and their personnel. The government and security agencies will undoubtedly intensify efforts to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future and maintain the peace and stability of the region.
