Nigerian Conjoined Twins’ Separation Surgery Commences in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

The delicate and intricate process of separating Nigerian conjoined twins Hassana and Hussaina began approximately five hours ago at the King Abdallah Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The complex operation, which commenced on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 7:40 am, is expected to span around 14 hours.

The news was shared by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, in a tweet message. The twins, along with their parents, were airlifted to Riyadh on November 9, 2022, following the approval of the King, who graciously offered to cover the expenses of the separation procedure.

The surgery is being conducted by a team of skilled medical professionals who have specialized in such intricate procedures. The King Abdallah Specialist Hospital is renowned for its expertise in complex surgeries, including the separation of conjoined twins.

The operation holds significant importance for the twins and their families, as it offers the possibility of a new lease on life, with each child having the opportunity to develop independently.
