Windhoek, Namibia – The U.S. Embassy in Namibia hosted a dynamic event on April 22rd to celebrate Earth Day and empower young people in the fight against climate change. The “Youth Sandbox” event brought together inspiring speakers, engaging workshops, and a passionate audience focused on renewable energy solutions for Namibia.

A panel discussion titled “Youth Participation in Renewable Energy Adoption: Paving the Way for Sustainable Development in Namibia” kicked off the event. Experts like mining engineer Tomas Aipanda, green hydrogen specialist Frans Kalenga, Fanuel Shinedima (founder of the Energy Youth Forum), and Geoff Keogh (U.S. Embassy energy expert) shared their insights on the opportunities and challenges facing Namibia’s renewable energy sector.

The day continued with breakout sessions focused on empowering young people to advocate for environmental causes. Attendees participated in workshops on using art for advocacy, motivating voter engagement on environmental issues, and exploring entrepreneurial opportunities in the renewable energy sector.

The U.S. Embassy expressed their gratitude to all participants for creating a space for “engaging discussions, and valuable connections.”
