Accra, Ghana – Hundreds laced up their sneakers on Saturday for a 10-kilometer health walk, the culminating event of Ghana’s Francophonie Month celebrations. The walk, which stretched from Kwame Nkrumah Circle to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, served a dual purpose: promoting the French language and bolstering Ghana’s bid for full membership in the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF).
Ghana has been an associate member of the OIF since 2006 and hopes to take the next step later this year. The 19th Summit of the International Organization of La Francophonie, scheduled for October 2024, will consider Ghana’s application for full membership.
The walk brought together a diverse group of participants, including members of Ghana’s Francophone community, the diplomatic corps, students from various senior high schools and universities, and staff from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration.
