24 May 2034, Windhoek – The SADC Ministerial Committee of the Organ on Politics, Defence, and Security Cooperation (MCO) Troika, along with representatives from the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) Personnel Contributing Countries (PCCS), convened an extraordinary virtual session on Wednesday, 24 May 2023. The purpose of the meeting was to deliberate on various matters, including the mandate of the SADC Mission in Mozambique and the current status of SAMIM’s finances.
Hon. Nandi-Ndaitwah, in her opening remarks, highlighted the pressing issue at hand – the ongoing conflict waged by vicious terrorists in the northern regions of the Republic of Mozambique. Expressing solidarity with the affected citizens and emphasizing the importance of collective regional peace, Hon. Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasized the deployment of the SADC Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM) to neutralize the terrorists and restore stability in the province of Cabo Delgado.
While acknowledging the gravity of the situation, Hon. Nandi-Ndaitwah also provided an update on the progress made in combating the terrorists and rebuilding the affected communities. The collective efforts of SADC member states have yielded significant results in neutralizing the threat and reclaiming control over the region, which has resulted in the restoration of livelihoods and state authority in Cabo Delgado.
Hon. Nandi-Ndaitwah called upon the attendees to reflect on the challenges faced and to ensure that the decisions made during the session were well-informed by the current ground reality. The evolving nature of the situation necessitates a comprehensive understanding of the prevailing conditions in Cabo Delgado, enabling strategic and effective decision-making to address the complex security and stability concerns.

The virtual session witnessed active participation and engagement from the attending representatives. Discussions focused on refining the mandate of the SADC Mission in Mozambique, evaluating its effectiveness in countering terrorism, and considering future strategies to enhance regional security efforts. Additionally, attention was given to reviewing the financial status of SAMIM to ensure the necessary resources are available for sustained operations.
