The Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) is hosting a Seminar on Africa’s Role in Advancing Multilateralism today, as part of the activities to observe Africa Month. The seminar, taking place at the OR Tambo Building, provides a platform for participants from various backgrounds, including diplomats, academics, and multinational institutions, to share their experiences and observations on how Africa can utilize multilateral avenues to enhance society and contribute to a better Africa within a global context.

At the seminar, Mr. Zane Dangor, the Director-General of DIRCO, is delivering remarks, offering valuable insights on the subject. The event offers a unique opportunity to engage in discussions that focus on South Africa’s foreign policy objectives, which prioritize unity, inclusive economic development, and shared prosperity for the African continent and its people. In line with these objectives, DIRCO actively participates in the structures and processes of the African Union (AU) to promote peace, security, and conflict prevention in Africa.
Among the distinguished attendees are Mr. Welile Nhlapo, a former South African Ambassador and international relations specialist, as well as H.E Xolisa Makaya, South Africa’s Permanent Representative to the African Union in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Members of the Diplomatic Corps in Pretoria are also present, underscoring the significance of the seminar within the diplomatic community.
This seminar serves as a valuable platform to explore how Africa can effectively leverage multilateral approaches to address its challenges and drive progress. By sharing best practices and experiences, participants aim to contribute to a stronger Africa that can actively shape its future, benefiting both the continent and the wider world.
