Lesotho’s Prime Minister, Ntsokoane Sam Matekane, will lead a delegation to the 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Heads of State and Government in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from February 15-16, 2025. The summit will focus on several critical issues, including peace and security, Africa’s role in the G20, and the continent’s geopolitical standing.
Lesotho’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Hon. Lejone Mpotjoana, arrived in Addis Ababa ahead of the summit and emphasized the importance of this year’s meeting, particularly the election of a new AU Commission. The new Commission will play a key role in implementing decisions from the Executive Council and ensuring that the continent’s developmental goals are met.
A major topic on the agenda will be tackling malnutrition across Africa. At the direction of His Majesty King Letsie III, the African Union’s Champion for Nutrition, Prime Minister Matekane will host a high-level dinner during the summit. The event, themed “From Policy to Action: Towards a Common Position to Addressing Malnutrition in Africa,” aims to build on past commitments and stimulate political engagement ahead of the upcoming Nutrition for Growth Summit in Paris.
Minister Mpotjoana also stated that Lesotho’s delegation plans to engage with AU institutions to discuss the country’s development priorities and explore potential investment opportunities.
