Maseru, Lesotho — Lesotho’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations welcomed an Algerian delegation led by H.E. Ambassador Salma Malika Haddadi on Thursday at the Qobosheaneng Government Complex.

Ambassador Haddadi met with Foreign Minister Hon. Lejone Mpotjoana as part of her campaign for the Deputy Chairperson position of the African Union Commission (AUC). The elections are set for February 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with Northern Africa nominating candidates for the role.

Haddadi, competing against Dr. Hanan Morey of Egypt and candidates from Libya and Morocco, seeks to advance her leadership credentials and promote gender representation and regional balance within the AU.

Lesotho and Algeria have maintained diplomatic ties since 1983, working together to support regional stability and development under the African Union framework.
