LAGOS — Nigerian President Bola Tinubu is set to travel to Pretoria on Tuesday to participate in the inauguration of South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa.
The announcement was made on Monday by presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale. Ramaphosa’s inauguration comes after his successful re-election for a second term, signifying a continued mandate to lead South Africa amidst its economic and social challenges.
President Tinubu’s attendance highlights the strengthening ties between Nigeria and South Africa, two of Africa’s largest economies. This event marks an important moment for bilateral relations, with both leaders expected to discuss mutual interests and cooperation on various fronts, including trade, security, and regional stability.
The ceremony will see dignitaries from across the continent and the world, emphasizing South Africa’s role on the global stage. Ramaphosa’s re-election has been seen as a pivotal moment for the country as it grapples with issues such as economic recovery post-COVID-19, unemployment, and energy crises.
For Tinubu, this visit also serves as an opportunity to engage with other African leaders, fostering a united approach to continental issues such as the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and the fight against terrorism.
After the inauguration, President Tinubu is scheduled to return to Nigeria, where he will continue his efforts in addressing domestic issues, including economic reforms and national security.
