Nairobi, Kenya – May 26, 2024 – Parties involved in the Tumaini Initiative, the high-level mediation effort for South Sudan, have made significant progress in ongoing discussions. Launched at State House Nairobi, the initiative aims to bring lasting peace and stability to the war-torn nation.
Lt. Gen. (Rtd.) Lazarus Sumbeiywo, the Chief Mediator, has stressed the importance of inclusivity. He believes involving representatives from diverse groups will foster wider acceptance and successful implementation of any agreements reached.

Talks have focused on clarifying positions on four key areas: justice, governance, economic reform, and security sector reform. These discussions align with the provisions outlined in the Revitalized Agreement for the Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).
