In an effort to make Indonesia a more appealing destination for work and investment, the government is set to introduce a “golden visa” program, which will provide longer stay permits for foreign talents.

Following a Cabinet meeting with President Joko Widodo, Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno announced that the golden visa program could be a potential game changer for attracting foreign workers and investments, ultimately leading to the creation of more job opportunities.

The program aims to grant foreigners a permit to stay in Indonesia for up to 10 years, although the specific technical details are still being finalized in collaboration with the Law and Human Rights Ministry’s Immigration Directorate General.

“We hope this will make Indonesia the epicenter of economic growth going forward, while also promoting sustainable development,” stated Minister Sandiaga Uno.

This new initiative marks the government’s second visa policy in recent months. The previous introduction of the “second home” visa program in October targeted elderly foreigners who wished to retire in the country’s popular tourist destinations.

The golden visa program is expected to serve as a significant catalyst for attracting global talents to Indonesia, bolstering foreign investment, and positioning the country as a hub for sustainable development and economic growth.
