Ghanaian President John Dramani Mahama held productive talks with Sierra Leone’s President Dr. Julius Maada Bio during his one-day visit to Freetown. The discussions focused on deepening the bilateral relationship between the two countries, particularly in areas like trade, education, investment, and institutional cooperation.
Both leaders agreed to reinvigorate the cooperation agreement signed in 2018, with plans to hold its inaugural meeting in Ghana in the near future. They expressed mutual commitment to advancing key sectors that would benefit their citizens and improve bilateral ties.
Regional security was also on the agenda, as Mahama and Bio addressed pressing issues like terrorism, conflict, and drug trafficking. They reaffirmed their dedication to finding effective solutions to these challenges.
The two leaders also discussed enhancing the West African Power Pool, which would increase regional power generation and distribution, further contributing to the region’s energy needs.
Mahama concluded his visit by meeting with the Ghanaian community in Sierra Leone, reassuring them that concerns regarding permits and tax issues would be addressed.
