MASERU, Lesotho – The Moshoeshoe’s Day Horse Racing Event officially kicked off on March 16, marking a significant moment for sports and tourism in the country. The event, launched by the Minister of Sports, Arts, and Culture, Honourable Motlatsi Maqelepo, is expected to boost the local economy and promote Lesotho’s rich equestrian heritage.
The event received a major financial push from its main sponsor, Honourable Ramela, who contributed M500,000. Addressing attendees from Lesotho, Southern Africa, and Botswana, Ramela expressed gratitude for their support and reaffirmed his commitment to making the event an annual tradition that grows in scale each year.

Minister Maqelepo urged business leaders to invest in sports, envisioning a world-class horse racing facility in the country. He stressed the importance of maintaining unity and keeping conflicts out of the sport.
The Ramela Foundation was recognized for its pivotal role in making the event possible, overcoming logistical challenges that have historically hindered horse racing events in Lesotho. Organizers acknowledged the Minister’s backing and called for further government action to develop the sport.
