Lesotho’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) will begin producing certified essential oils for export by June, marking a major step in the country’s efforts to expand its presence in international markets.
At a Regional Value Chains Lesotho (RVCL+) breakfast meeting, government officials and MSMEs engaged in discussions on developing the industry. The initiative, backed by the European Union (EU) in Lesotho and the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Business Development, is designed to strengthen local production and enhance export potential.
Minister of Trade Mokhethi Shelile expressed optimism that the program would open new opportunities for Lesotho’s unique plant-based products in Europe. He described the project as a boost to economic growth and a gateway for small businesses to reach wider markets.
EU Ambassador Paola Amadei noted that the initiative aligns with Lesotho’s economic diversification strategy, supporting entrepreneurship and sustainable development. The program is part of broader efforts to integrate local industries into regional and global trade networks.
