Cape Town will host the Cape Town Cycle Tour on Sunday, 9 March 2025, with over 30,000 cyclists expected to participate. The event is a major highlight in the city and the Western Cape’s sporting calendar, drawing participants from around the world.
The Western Cape Government (WCG) anticipates the event will have a positive impact on the region’s tourism sector, further contributing to job creation. Major sporting events like the cycle tour are vital for the local economy, boosting industries such as hospitality, retail, and transport.
Ricardo Mackenzie, MEC for Cultural Affairs and Sport, will take part in the tour and encouraged participants to enjoy the event while staying safe. “We welcome all cyclists to our province, and I’m excited to see more people adopting cycling as part of a healthy lifestyle,” Mackenzie said.
The 109km route around the Cape Peninsula is considered one of the must-do cycling events in South Africa. Several Cape Town roads will be closed on the weekend of the event to accommodate the race.
