On Tuesday, 4 March 2025, President Cyril Ramaphosa met with President Daniel Chapo of Mozambique at his official residence, Genadendal, in Cape Town. This marks a significant step in strengthening political, diplomatic, and economic relations between the two countries.
President Chapo, who was recently inaugurated as the President of Mozambique, is visiting South Africa to further deepen cooperation at the bilateral, regional, and global levels. The leaders’ discussions focused on enhancing collaboration and improving state institutions in both countries.
The longstanding relationship between South Africa and Mozambique is rooted in shared struggles against apartheid and colonialism, with cultural and familial ties further cementing the bond. South African companies have invested between R155 billion and R175 billion in Mozambique, creating over 42,000 jobs. The newly established South African Chamber of Commerce in Mozambique also aims to promote trade and investment between the two nations.
