The Eswatini Ministry of Agriculture has launched the Sitsatsaweni/Mhlumeni Cordon Fencing Project to prevent the spread of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) from Mozambique. The project, announced by the ministry’s Principal Secretary on behalf of the Minister, focuses on rehabilitating sections of the border fence to protect the country’s livestock industry.

The first phase will cover up to 20 kilometers of fencing as part of efforts to maintain Eswatini’s FMD-free status. Officials say the initiative is crucial for ensuring the safety of local beef production and preserving access to export markets.
