More than 30 migrants, including two children, have been stranded for three days on an oil rig off Tunisia, with one reported dead and others in urgent need of medical assistance, the Sea-Watch charity said Monday.
A Sea-Watch reconnaissance plane spotted the group on Saturday on the Miskar oil platform, with an empty rubber dinghy drifting nearby. The migrants were seen huddled in blankets on the deck, seeking shelter from the wind and waves.
Alarm Phone, a hotline for sea migrants, said it spoke with the group on Sunday. The migrants reported they had not eaten for days and that several people were sick.
Sea-Watch said the migrants had originally fled from Libya and called on European authorities to intervene quickly.
