Lusaka, Zambia – February 26, 2025– President Hakainde Hichilema has announced immediate measures to address severe flooding in Lusaka, warning that tough decisions will be made to prevent future crises.
During a visit to flood-stricken areas, Hichilema expressed condolences to families who lost loved ones and support for those displaced. He blamed the crisis on years of poor urban planning and said the government would act swiftly to resolve the issue.

Authorities will drain floodwaters and relocate residents who have built on drainage systems, with compensation promised for affected households.
