New members of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) were sworn in today as the Sitting of the Permanent Committees began. The PAP, established in 2004 by the African Union, aims to foster greater participation of Africa’s people and grassroots organizations in governance and economic integration.
Among the newly sworn-in members are representatives from Botswana, Chad, Mozambique, Senegal, and South Africa. From Botswana, the new parliamentarians include Hon. Sam Digwa, Hon. Arafat K. Khan, Hon. Dr. Kesetegile Gobotswang, Hon. Kagiso T. Mmusi, and Hon. Mosadi Seboko. Chad’s delegation consists of Hon. Djidda Mamar Mahamat, Hon. Amina Tidjani Yaya, Hon. Prof. Mahamat Annadif Youssouf, Hon. Mahamat Saleh Ahmat Khayar, and Hon. Amina Ali Idriss. Mozambique is represented by Hon. Aires Bonifácio Baptista Ali, Hon. Excelência Damião José, Hon. Excelência Sarfina Filipe Franco Chindaculema, Hon. Rute Venâncio Manjate, and Hon. José Manteigas Gabriel. Senegal’s new members are Hon. Massamba Dieng, Hon. Fama Ba, Hon. Yoba Balde, Hon. Lamine Faye, and Hon. Therese Faye. South Africa is represented by Hon. M. Chetty.
