Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – February 11, 2025 – Somalia and Algeria are working to deepen their diplomatic ties, with a focus on expanding cooperation in several key areas.
Somalia’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ali Mohamed Omar, met with Algeria’s Foreign Minister, Ahmed Ataf, in Addis Ababa on Tuesday. The meeting took place ahead of the African Union Executive Council’s discussions.
The two ministers discussed ways to enhance their bilateral relations, review past agreements, and explore new opportunities for collaboration. A key point of discussion was the ongoing coordination between Somalia and Algeria as non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council. Both countries aim to strengthen Africa’s influence in international forums, particularly through their shared role in the A3+ group.
