Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema began a four-day visit to Japan on Tuesday, 4th February, traveling from Tokyo to Nagoya City, where he toured Toyota Motors Corporation.
During the visit, Hichilema held talks with Toyota Tsusho Corporation’s leadership, led by Group President and CEO, Ichiro Kashitani. Toyota, the world’s largest car manufacturer, is interested in increasing its investments in Zambia, expanding beyond automotive production into energy and pharmaceuticals.
The President encouraged Toyota to take advantage of Zambia’s natural resources and favorable investment climate by establishing a parts manufacturing plant in the country, which could complement Toyota’s operations in South Africa. He also called for the fast-tracking of feasibility studies for a proposed PV solar power station in Zambia, in line with the government’s push for energy diversification.
Hichilema reiterated Zambia’s commitment to becoming a prime investment destination, focusing on boosting economic development and creating job opportunities, especially for the youth.
