The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations in Lesotho has suspended Mr. Japan Mntambo from his role as Director of Consular Affairs following his involvement in facilitating the visa approval for Hon. Dr. Tsepo Lipholo, a Member of Parliament, for private travel to the United States.

The Ministry expressed serious concern over Mntambo’s actions, which it described as a breach of protocol. It is not customary for the Ministry to assist with private international travel, and the facilitation of such arrangements was seen as compromising the country’s reputation.

Mntambo has been placed on immediate suspension pending a full investigation and potential disciplinary proceedings. During the suspension, he is required to hand over all official materials, including documents, office keys, and electronic devices, to the Office of Human Resources. He has also been instructed to cease all duties related to the Ministry and remain available for any inquiries during the investigation.

Further details regarding the next steps in the process will be communicated in due course.
