At least 54 people were killed and 158 wounded on Saturday in a strike on a market in Omdurman, Sudan’s health ministry said. The attack was blamed on the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), though the group denied responsibility and accused the Sudanese army of targeting civilians.
The fighting between the army and RSF began in April 2023 over a dispute about the integration of the two forces. Both sides have launched attacks in densely populated areas, causing heavy civilian casualties.
The conflict has killed tens of thousands, displaced millions, and left half of Sudan’s population facing severe hunger.
