Delivery Ka Speed, founded by Godiragetse Fareed Mogajane, is revolutionizing service delivery in South Africa’s townships. What started as a small food delivery service during the 2021 COVID-19 lockdown has grown into a full-fledged logistics company connecting businesses to underserved communities across the country.
The idea for the business arose when Godi returned to his hometown of Hammanskraal and struggled to order food due to a lack of reliable delivery services. He noticed that the township was underserved by big companies that often relied on inaccurate digital maps, leaving millions of potential customers without options. At the same time, he witnessed his peers’ struggles with unemployment and realized there was an opportunity to create jobs and a solution to the service gaps in township areas.

In response to this, Godi founded Delivery Ka Speed, offering a much-needed delivery service while simultaneously providing work for young people in the township. The company’s early operations were simple, with orders placed via WhatsApp and a small team of drivers handling deliveries. Recognizing that many youth in townships lacked driver’s licenses, Godi introduced bicycles and electric scooters to address the logistical challenges, giving young people who otherwise lacked opportunities a chance to join the gig economy.

Despite the limited initial funds, Godi financed the business from his savings. Within six months, Delivery Ka Speed expanded to Soshanguve, Mabopane, and Mamelodi, processing over 6,500 orders, hiring 20 drivers, and generating over R1 million in revenue. This success attracted an angel investor via LinkedIn, which allowed the company to build a custom app and expand to four provinces.
Today, Delivery Ka Speed employs around 100 drivers and continues to grow. The company has secured partnerships with major companies such as Spar and Telkom, expanding its service offerings to include groceries, stationery, and telecommunications products to underserved areas. In December 2023, the company secured further investment from Aions Creative Technology, enabling it to scale operations.

The success of Delivery Ka Speed can also be attributed to Godi’s focus on community engagement. The company’s visibility in townships, as well as its branding as a Black youth-owned business, has fostered trust and helped build its reputation. Godi is committed to integrating township communities into the broader economy, with plans to set up collection points for e-commerce deliveries in local shops and spazas.
Looking ahead, Godi aims to double the company’s driver count by mid-2025 and continue to innovate to serve township communities more effectively. Delivery Ka Speed is now a significant player in the logistics industry, bridging the gap between businesses and underserved areas while empowering local youth.
